UWA Spectral Sensor (Defence)

Project Brief

“Demonstrate an integrated system that can detect and neutralise improvised threats on a complex joint battlespace with as low as reasonably practicable risk to Defence personnel and civilians.”

RemSense worked with UWA who had developed an IR spectral sensor that could potentially work from distance to design a drone payload system utilising the spectral sensor. For the sensor to work, it needs to focus on a very small area, from high distance – resulting in an extremely small field of view.

Solution & Outcome

RemSense designed and built a payload that met the required precision, whilst viewing the target and communicating with the control station simultaneously.

The solution was deemed to be successful, proving the capability to integrate UWA’s IR sensor to a drone, capable of identifying IED’s from >100m away.
